Ricoh Future Printer

Ricoh Finalist

Blocktag competed in Ricoh's challenge to reimagine the printer's future and was one of the 4 finalists out of 400 participants at the finals.

We oriented the pitch angle away from Blockchain as that market has cooled along with crypto.

We also reoriented the pitch away from the Metaverse seeing Zuck is struggling to save Meta (But we will see if Tim can save the Metaverse soon with his new AR headset)

Printer as Factory to Make Recyclable, Carbon Efficient Paper Securiy Tags

What if the printer is a factory that can make recyclable, carbon efficient paper security tags?

Security Tag Industry Problem is Printer Industry Opportunity

The Printer industry has similar problems as the security tag industry.

Remote workers find it inconvenient to visit the office to use printers and company seals to authorize paper documents.

As a result, paper, seals, stamps, signatures, holograms are all digitised. But when you cannot meet someone in person, it increases the risk that they claim to own something they don’t have, fake their location, or pretend to be someone else.

The cost of physical authentication is high. Raw material cost for plastic and metal security tags like holograms, NFC and RFID have increased.

Another cost is the environment, measured in kilograms of carbon dioxide released. Printer paper is not known to be environment friendly, but plastic and metal security tags release 3 to 80 times more carbon. And you have not considered its shipping cost and non recyclable waste yet.

Printable DIY Security Tag System For Anyone, Anywhere

Blocktag's' solution is to repurpose the printer as a factory to make green paper security tags ondemand. People can go to Blocktag.com to download these tags in different designs and print on materials like plain paper, sticker paper, linerless labels or direct on box packaging.
